Gold Medal fishing is one of Vail’s most popular summer activities. All Colorado rivers are public access, meaning you can float and wade onto any parts of the water. However, the banks of the rivers are either publicly or privately owned.
Gore Creek flows through Vail from the high mountains of the Gore Range. Just west of the continental divide, this pristine river runs rough and high until the middle of June. As the runoff subsides, the mineral-rich waters spring to life and are full of beautiful rainbow and brown trout. Homes on Gore Creek are some of the most desirable in town, commanding an obvious premium due to their summer tranquility and winter proximity to skiing.
When fishing is the number one priority, a homeowner might find their best options slightly west of Vail on the Eagle River. The Eagle, a larger river, is also home to world class fishing and has a much longer fishing season. There is a private fishing club located in the shallower headwaters as well as large private ranches as you head west. Minturn, Avon, Edwards, Wolcott and Eagle are the most desirable fishing locations.
